MSFC is a grassroots organization committed to supporting the work of students and residents on the ground. In order to accomplish this work, we rely on the following structure:
Student Leaders
Student Leaders are responsible for all MSFC work at the campus-level. They plan events, host lectures, fundraise, and generally advocate to their classmates the need for tomorrow’s abortion providers and pro-choice physicians. Student Leaders also coordinate with local, regional, and national representatives, and the national office staff, to further the mission of Medical Students for Choice.
Regional Coordinators (RCs)
Regional Coordinators actively communicate with, support, and represent at the national level Student Leaders from a specific region. There are currently 11 small regions in the U.S., and one in Canada. RCs are responsible for:
- helping new Student Leaders transition into their leadership roles;
- sharing ideas and input;
- organizing regional meetings; and
- ensuring the flow of information between the Student Leaders and the larger, bi-national, work of the organization.
RCs are members of the Student Advisory Council (SAC), attend the Annual Meeting, and the regional meeting for their region.
National Coordinators (NCs)
National Coordinators actively support and communicate with Regional Coordinators from several specific regions. The NCs are also responsible for:
- assisting the Regional Coordinators’ efforts to support MSFC activities at every school;
- working with the National Office to establish and support new MSFC groups in their regions;
- acting as the communication link between Regional Coordinators and the National Office;
- leading regional meetings at the Annual Meeting;
- acting as an MSFC spokesperson to the media, medical community, and public, when applicable;
- participating in MSFC fundraising activities; and
- serving on the Board of Directors.
NCs are members of the Student Advisory Council (SAC) and MSFC’s Board of Directors. They are required to attend Board meetings, all SAC meetings, and the Annual Meeting.
Osteopathic Representative to the SAC (ORSAC)
The Osteopathic Representative actively supports and communicates with osteopathic School Leaders. The ORSAC is also responsible for:
- working with RCs to help them coordinate more effectively with osteopathic schools;
- working with the National Office to establish and support new MSFC groups at osteopathic schools; and
- participating in MSFC fundraising activities.
The ORSAC is a member of the Student Advisory Council (SAC). They are required to attend and participate in all SAC meetings, one Regional Meeting, and the Annual Meeting.
Board of Directors
Comprised of medical students and members at large from across the U.S. and Canada, the Board of Directors develops the organization’s Strategic Plan and oversees the Executive Director of MSFC.
